External (Community) Borrowers

Patrons of the Nancy Thompson Learning Commons from communities surrounding Kean University are eligible to access certain resources from the library.

Eligibility:  Residents of Elizabeth, Hillside Township & Union Township

Identification Requirement:  A Community Borrower must present a Valid NJ Driver’s License or a NJ Non-driver Identification Card. In addition, a Community Borrower must be at least 18 years old. Any borrower younger than 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who will need to present their own Valid NJ Driver’s License or NJ Non-driver Identification Card. In these cases, the parent or guardian would receive the Community Borrower library card in their own name, and the parent or guardian will also need to accompany the minor child during future visits to the Learning Commons to borrow books. The Community Borrower library card holder will be responsible for all materials charged against the NTLC Library card.

Community Borrower Restrictions

Reserve Materials:

Reserve books and other materials are for the exclusive use of students enrolled in courses at Kean University.

Best Seller and Graphic Novel Collections:
Items from the Best Seller and Graphic Novel shelves are for the exclusive use of students enrolled in courses at Kean University.

Lost Books:

A $55.00 (average book price) will be charged for lost or damaged books.  However, the NTLC retains the right to determine the value of any lost or damaged book. Borrowing privileges will be suspended until the debt is paid. Refunds will not be given if books are returned after making a  payment. Costs will be assessed for damage to Library materials.
