Kean University has an ever-growing collection of circulating books and e-books for use by students, faculty or anyone else in the Kean Community. Physical books may be found on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the library collection, and can be checked out at the front desk on the 1st floor or by using the self-service kiosk, also found on the first floor lobby.
A current Kean University photo ID is required to borrow books.
The holder of the ID will be responsible for all materials charged against the patron's account.
Fines and fees will be assessed for damaged and overdue books.
A fee of $55 per book will be charged for lost books. Refunds will not be given if books are returned after the payment is made.
Circulation limits and book loan periods can be found using the table to the right.
Course Reserves
The Course Reserves collection provides Kean students with access to course-related materials that are required or recommended by Kean professors. Reserve materials are available at the Circulation Desk during all Nancy Thompson Learning Commons hours of operation. All Reserve items that are checked out must be returned to the Front-End Operations Desk 30 minutes before closing.
Additionally, some professors place articles on E-Reserves, which may be accessed online through the Worldcat Discovery search bar on the Learning Commons home page.
Professors wishing to place items on Reserve should use the form here: https://kean.libwizard.com/f/Reserveform
Many of the items that are not carried by the Nancy Thompson Learning Commons can be accessed through our Interlibrary Loan system. This system allows for items that are held by other academic institutions to be lent to Kean University. Loan period varies by lending library. Please allow 1-2 weeks for processing/retrieval, depending on the format/rarity/availability of the material(s). Simply go to https://libguides.kean.edu/ILL for more information on how to request electronic items through Interlibrary Loan.
