September 10, 2025

Dear Kean Community,

On behalf of the Nancy Thompson Learning Commons (NTLC), I am proud to share that we have achieved significant progress over the past five years. Now as Kean enters a new era of AI and innovation, guided by President Repollet’s vision to elevate our University as a leader in artificial intelligence, global collaboration, and student success, the NTLC is proud to power this momentum with services that put people first and technology to work for learning. Kean’s Elevate 2030 plan and new AI initiatives (including a B.S. in AI, a Ph.D. in Computer Science, and an AI Center of Excellence) set the stage; our role is to ensure every student and faculty member can access the tools, skills, and support to thrive in this moment.

While we all deserve a breather, NTLC will be busy supporting the amazing academic year. Following are some of the highlights:

  • Continued Support for EOF and Bridge to Success: We will provide in-building, wraparound support for EOF and all Kean students, tutoring, coaching, research help, writing support, and welcoming study spaces designed for persistence and belonging.
  • Providing asynchronous writing support.
  • Navigate for Appointments: We’re continuing with Navigate (EAB) for all Learning Support bookings, tutoring, academic coaching, language support, and research consultations, so scheduling help is simple and consistent across campus.
  • More Hands-On AI Workshops: Building on last year’s series, this year’s AI offerings will be even more practical, task-based labs for research, writing, data, and course design, so students and faculty can safely and ethically use AI to learn and create.
  • Expanded Centers in the Commons: Our new Language Resource Center and the Writing Center are fully open and ready to serve, with multilingual support, writing across the curriculum, and targeted help for graduate and professional writing.
  • Faculty Research & Teaching Support: Beyond consultations and course-integrated sessions, we’ll prioritize rapid Document Delivery Service and resource access, alongside research coaching and classroom collaborations to meet evolving scholarly needs.
  • Ongoing Workshops & Coaching: We’ll keep our regular roster, writing, research, study skills, time management—while adding AI-aware sessions that integrate critical thinking, citation, and academic integrity.

We’re here to help you excel all year long. Please check our online calendar for upcoming workshops and book your support through Navigate. If you have questions or ideas, reach out (visit out website or email at learningcommons@kean.edu), NTLC is your partner in learning, research, and innovation.

Wishing you a safe, energizing, and productive year ahead!

Sincerely,
Muhammad Hassan
