- The default search in Google Scholar is by relevance. However, a popular search technique is to sort or filter by publication date, using the options on the left side of screen.
- You can also choose to sort the list from descending publication date in order to see the most recent articles on your searched topic first.
- There is also an option to include or exclude patents and citations.
Another good way to expand your search is to use the Related Articles and Cited By underneath each item. These tend to be hit or miss, depending on how the articles relate to each other and what portion of the article is cited. Still, it is always good to give these tools a try!
